Strong support for safer lifting
TRT Crane Outrigger Pads are designed and manufactured for the crane industry, giving your lift the strong, stable support it needs across a wide range of ground conditions. Our crane pads are built using high-tensile Hardox™ steel and a honeycomb construction for maximum strength while keeping tare weight down. The result is a robust, long-lasting pad that is easy to transport, quick to set up, and ready for demanding crane and lift sites.
TRT Crane Outrigger Pads are engineered to solve the variables that make lift sites unpredictable. From soft ground and underground services to tight access and multi-site days, every design decision is made to keep the crane stable, the crew safe, and the job moving.
-
Hardox™ high tensile steel construction
TRT Crane Outrigger Pads are manufactured from Hardox™ high tensile steel for strength you can rely on under load.
This gives each pad the structural performance needed for demanding crane work, while helping keep tare weight down for easier handling, transport, and setup on site.
-
Honeycomb core design
The internal honeycomb structure gives TRT Crane Pads strength without unnecessary weight.
It helps distribute outrigger load across the pad surface, reduce deflection under pressure, and keep the pads practical to move and position between lifts.
-
Designed to span trenches and manhole covers
TRT Crane Pads are built to support safer lifting on real worksites, including sites with trenches, manhole covers, voids, and underground services.
The pad design helps bridge these areas while maintaining ground stability, giving operators more flexibility when positioning the crane.
-
Non-slip surface and angled sides
Every TRT Crane Pad is designed with site safety in mind.
The non-slip surface supports safer footing for crews working around the crane, while the angled sides help reduce the risk of tyre damage to vehicles moving through tight or congested work areas.
-
Engineering data included
TRT makes lift planning easier by supplying engineering drawings and ground pressure data with every standard crane pad size.
That means planners, engineers, and site teams have the information they need to assess ground bearing requirements and select the right pad for the job.
-
Transport attachments as standard
TRT Crane Pads are designed to be moved, loaded, and positioned efficiently. Most pads are supplied with trunnions as the standard lifting and transport attachment. The PAD-014 is supplied with forklift pockets and D-rings to suit its smaller size and handling requirements.
-
Custom manufacturing available
Not every lift is standard. When the standard range does not meet the job, TRT can manufacture crane outrigger pads to specification.Custom pads are built with the same focus on strength, safety, and practical site use, sized and configured to suit the crane, lift plan, and ground conditions.
Ten sizes. One standard of build.
TRT Crane Outrigger Pads are available in 10 standard sizes, from the compact PAD-014 through to the large PAD-143 with a 20ft container footprint.
Surface area plays a key role in ground pressure distribution, so choosing the right pad is part of good lift planning. All standard sizes are supplied in sets of four, with engineering drawings and ground pressure data included.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
What size crane outrigger pad do I need?
Pad size comes down to the outrigger load your crane generates and the bearing capacity of the ground at your site.
Surface area is the key variable: a larger pad distributes the outrigger load across more ground, reducing ground pressure.
Every TRT standard pad comes with engineering drawings and ground pressure data, which gives your lift planner or engineer the figures they need to make that call.
If you are unsure, get in touch with the TRT team and we can work through it with you.
-
Are the pads supplied individually or in sets?
All TRT Crane Outrigger Pads are supplied in sets of four.
That matches the four-outrigger configuration standard on most mobile cranes. If you have a specific requirement, contact the team to discuss.
-
Can I use TRT crane pads over a manhole cover or trench?
Yes. TRT Crane Outrigger Pads are specifically designed to span trenches and manhole covers without compromising ground stability underneath.
The Hardox steel honeycomb construction maintains structural integrity across a void, protecting underground services and keeping the outrigger load distributed safely.
For any site with known ground voids or underground services, the engineering drawings supplied with each pad will help confirm the right size for the application.
-
How are the pads moved and transported on site?
Trunnions are fitted as the standard lifting and transport attachment on all pads except the PAD-014, which comes with forklift pockets and D-rings.
This means pads can be lifted and positioned with standard rigging equipment and moved between sites on crane support trailers.
The honeycomb design keeps tare weight as low as possible for the surface area, which matters when you are repositioning pads across multiple lifts in a day.
TRT also manufactures a range of crane support trailers designed to carry the full pad range.
-
Can TRT manufacture crane pads to a custom size?
Yes. For projects where the standard range doesn't meet the specification, TRT manufactures crane outrigger pads to order at our Hamilton facility.
The same Hardox high tensile steel and honeycomb core construction applies, along with engineering drawings and ground pressure data for the finished pad.
Get in touch with the team to discuss your requirements and we will work through what the job needs.
-
Where are TRT Crane Outrigger Pads manufactured?
TRT Crane Outrigger Pads are manufactured at TRT's head office and production facility in Hamilton, New Zealand.
They are used on construction and lifting sites across New Zealand and Australia.
Engineering drawings and ground pressure data are produced alongside each standard size, so the documentation is consistent and comes directly from the manufacturer..
