Lawrence Engineering and TRT: Building Pick and Carry Capability
OVERVIEW
Lawrence Engineering has added a second TIDD to its fleet, taking delivery of a TIDD PC28-2 through Baden Davis Crane Connection.
The purchase followed strong performance from its first TIDD PC28 and a closer look at TRT’s engineering and manufacturing process.
SITUATION
Lawrence Engineering is based in Broken Hill and serves the mining industry, water infrastructure, wind energy and rural sectors.
The company needed another pick and carry crane to support its work across demanding operating environments.
Lawrence Engineering bought its first TIDD PC28 in 2019.
Nigel Lawrence has said that machine helped improve productivity as the business continued using it.
CHALLENGE
Lawrence Engineering was weighing up options for a second pick and carry crane.
The decision needed to account for performance, operator experience, support and long-term fleet value.
The business also wanted to understand what had changed in the newer TIDD PC28-2.
That included upgrades to lifting performance, control, comfort and support.
SOLUTION
Anthony Davis and Crane Connection invited Lawrence Engineering to visit TRT’s factory and see the TIDD PC28-2 engineering and manufacturing process.
Nigel Lawrence has said the visit helped him better understand the TIDD machines and TRT’s approach to heavy engineering.
The TIDD PC28-2 includes more powerful front suspension cylinders.
This improves lift capacity by up to 17 percent when articulated and working on a side slope.
The upgraded load chart adds three steps to improve lift control while the crane articulates.
The Robway operating software has also been upgraded for faster processing and improved control responsiveness.
TRT also re-engineered the ROPS cabin.
Testing showed an 8dBa reduction in cabin noise at 80km/h on the road.
As part of the deal, Anthony Davis and his team also upgraded Lawrence Engineering’s older TIDD.
Nigel Lawrence has said this gave the older machine improved pick and carry capability on articulation.
MADE POSSIBLE:
Lawrence Engineering now has two TIDD cranes in its fleet.
The second TIDD moved quickly into work, heading to a mine site shutdown soon after delivery.
The older machine has also been upgraded, giving Lawrence Engineering more consistent capability across both TIDD cranes.
The relationship with Anthony Davis and Crane Connection has continued for almost five years.
Lawrence Engineering has now purchased three cranes through Anthony Davis.
